Inspired by the natural and infinite sculpting of Earth’s landscape, I create tactile sculptures called Terraforms. As eons of water gradually sculpt rocks, I sculpt smoothed recessions that mimic these geological processes and the passage of time. I push and tap on a hollow pod to shape peaks and valleys. Rotating the form within my hand is similar to the act of holding a stone and connecting to the earth. My aim is to produce a moment for mindfulness, transcribe my journey, and feel the calm of creation.

I received my B.F.A. from UNC-Asheville, where I devised my micaceous surface treatment. Wading in the mountain stream beds, I picked each shining flake of mica out of the clear water. I was reminded of my barefoot days in the creek behind my childhood home. The result is a fossil, embedded with my experience as a North Carolinian and the imprint left in me in return.
